Hello mappers! Today I will teach you how to open some of the developer/official maps for CS:GO in Hammer. I'm sure you noticed that the VMF (uncompiled map) files were included with the SDK, but opening them was weird and left everything uneditable and tinted yellow!
ATTENTION: You need Java and the Java Runtime Environment for this. You can download it here: https://www.java.com/en/download/ and here http://www.oracle.com This is the second proper video in a new series of videos which will hopefully make map-making easier if you're just getting started. You will need Steam to actually have the menu that you see at the beginning of this video, and you need at least one Source-based game to be able to map for it. Valve Hammer Editor 4.x, provided as a component of the Source SDK, is the official Source mapping tool. Apart from the construction of level architecture, Valve Hammer Editor 4.x is also heavily involved with creating level events and scripting. I have CSGO installed at E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive and the stupid csgo SDK keeps telling me that the text file isn't at c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive I tried putting the location of a folder with the name Counter-Strike Global Hello mappers! Download said tool and wait until it finishes. After it finishes, double or left-click it and press ENTER to open it. Upon opening it will bring up a tiny screen labeled "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive SDK." You should now locate and open the "Hammer World Editor." Once in and loaded, at the top left corner it should say "FILE."
